Obituary of Leta Madolyn Underhill
Leta Underhill, 77, of Hampton, passed away peacefully at home after a short battle with cancer, on March 20, 2016 . Born on October 13, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Wendell and Melba (Todd) Dykeman of Jemseg NB.
Leta is survived by the love of her life, husband Ken. For 57 years, they were an exceptional example of the beauty of marriage, with Ken taking such tender care of Leta during her sickness. Leta also leaves to mourn, 4 children, Jerry Underhill( Kelly) of Black Creek BC, Carole Morey ( Mike ) of Moncton, Janet Flood ( Todd Robichaud of Musquash) and Gail Fournier( Darrel Fournier) of Saint John. 12 grandchildren, Ben, Danielle, Jessica, Nick, Matthew, Meaghan , Kris, Samantha, Nigel, Kaylee, Kristen, and Kelsey, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews , sisters, Anna McKinney, Helen Dykeman ( Gabe Gibson) , Phyllis Ferguson , two brothers, Clinton Dykeman ( Margaret) and Carl Dykeman ( Sheryl) , Brother in Law Fred Black, Mother in Law Maude Underhill (99 years), Brothers and Sisters … in law Robert Underhill, Hazen and Faye Underhill, Claude and Marion Underhill.
In addition to her parents, Leta was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Dykeman and Gladys Black, brother, Walter Dykeman, brothers- in-law Allan McKinney, and Malcolm Ferguson.
Leta was a passionate educator for 44 years and impacted the lives of many students. Her gift of encouragement positive outlook and strong faith in the Lord, were traits that drew their many friends and family to Leta and Ken. During retirement she and her husband Ken enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with their precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. (Skype and Facebook made this possible)!
Leta was not at all afraid of death as she knew without a doubt she would be Safe in the Arms of Jesus.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Tuesday from 1 - 5 PM and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Service will be held at True Life Church (former Rothesay Baptist Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis) on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment to take place at Upper Hampstead Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Saint John the Baptist/ King Edward School in Saint John New Brunswick.
