Obituary of Lola Delia Steeves
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lola Delia Steeves, wife of Wilfred Steeves, for fifty four years, announce her passing at the age of eighty one, which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, after a period of failing health, on Saturday, September 3, 2016.
Born in Lakeside, NB, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Delia Smith. Lola graduated from Hampton Consolidated High School and Modern Business College, then worked for ten years as secretary at the Saint John Y.M.C.A. She loved family gatherings, especially at Christmas time. Lola enjoyed quilting, traveling, writing poetry, genealogy, and was very handy at crafts.
In addition to her husband Wilfred; Lola will be sadly missed by her daughter Gwen Chase (Jeff), grandchildren; Ben Steeves (Shawnesty), Michael Steeves (Gillian), Katelynn Chase, Jonathan Steeves (Dakota), Curtis Chase (Melissa), sister Doreen Floyd (Ken), brothers; David Smith (Marion), Raymond Smith (Louise), Son-in-law Brian Steeves (Marcheta), sister-in-law Joan MacKinley; several nieces, nephews , cousins, and special friends.
She was a member of True Life Church (formerly Rothesay Baptist) for several years and was active in several ladies groups and kitchen crew for Club 60.
Lola was predeceased by daughter Elaine Steeves (2012), infant grandson Joey Steeves (1998), her parents and sister Melva Clark.
Funeral arrangements are under the professional care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (849-2119) where visitation will take place on Sunday, September 4, from 7-9 PM and Monday 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM.
Celebration of Life service will be held at True Life Church, 30 Vincent Road, Quispamsis, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Steeves Settlement Cemetery. If desired, donations in memory of Lola may be made to the charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
