Obituary of Douglas Everett Crouse

Douglas Everett Crouse (May 19, 1940-October 29, 2016) Predeceased by his father Everett Crouse and his mother Florence (Bird), his sisters Marilda Brewer (Burtis) and Carolyn Jones and his brother-in-law Carl Jones, Douglas is survived by his wife and best friend Rosena (Seely), his three children and admirers Roberta Ross (Bill), Pamela Robichaud (Claude) and Douglas Brent, his two beloved grandchildren Robert and Heidi Ross (Todd Cusack), and his younger brother Wayne (Debbie), as well as the many nephews, nieces, cousins, and brothers-and-sisters-in-law whom Doug always considered a cherished part of his life. Born in Devon and bred in Burtt's Corner, NB, Douglas graduated from Ryerson University's School of Radio and Television Arts with a BA in Journalism and Broadcasting, starting his career at CKCW Radio Moncton where he served as news broadcaster and host of his own local tourism show, "By The Sea". Eventually finding his way to Saint John, New Brunswick, he joined NB-Tel in public relations and worked his way up into communications in a company career that totaled 36 years. For him, however, his greatest accomplishments were the home he built from the ground up, the marriage he maintained and nurtured as a loving partner and friend, and the family he watched over and protected as a perfect example of a caring patriarch any child could wish for. He lived the life he wanted to live, which is all one can ask of and hope for anyone. As per Doug's wishes, there will be no viewing, service or funeral. All he asks of family and friends is that they celebrate his life with laughter and good memories, to not be sad that he is gone but to be happy that he was here. And everyone who knew Doug will have enough good memories to honor this last and sincere bequest. To his family, he was a Rock of Gibraltar, always ready with an opinion and advice, always there as a constant through life's changes, as dependable as his signature rocking chairs that were firmly planted in every room of his beloved home and served as his rotating seats of operations. To his friends, he was the one who could share a beer, good food, and the humor he always managed to see in life, and prove just as loyal a companion as he did to family. He was a bemused spectator of life's foibles, an armchair philosopher and theologian, an exhaustive but always entertaining debater, a self-taught artisan and craftsman, and a rare combination of traditional husband and father and liberal individual thinker who taught his wife and children to be all they can be, no matter what the rest of the world may have to say about it. He was, in the words of a close family friend, simply "one of the most interesting men I have ever met." Doug's family gives special thanks to EXTRA MURAL staff and nurses for their dedication in providing at-home care services; in particular, deep gratitude is expressed to EXTRA MURAL respiratory therapist Bill Koval, whose professional expertise and personal support will be forever fondly remembered. The Crouse family also cannot thank Harold and Juanita Kingston enough for their care and support when it was needed the most. Their good will and compassion will never be forgotten and will always be deeply appreciated.
