This morning I read about the loss of your Mom, someone I have admired and thought of throughout my life. I was one of her student's at CVR and I lived in Ormstown, Quebec. My name was Brenda Willoughby and your Mom is the reason I attended Acadia University and ended up spending my life in the Maritimes. She so impressed me with her teachings each day and suggested I go to Acadia. I too became a teacher and taught for 39 years in N.S. and N,B. My strength as an educator came from many of her daily lessons and the methods she used to inspire us. If I had only known she was in Rothesay I would have visited with her. Always in my thoughts, a great lady has left this earth. Brenda(Willoughby)MacPherson

Mrs. Brown could make Shakespeare come alive like no one else. Her classes were structured and you always knew what was expected of you. Mrs. Brown had an unusual way to inspire young minds. Her dry wit supported her love of literature. A teacher I will always be grateful for and never forget. My sympathies to her family.

My condolences to you. I was a student of Mrs. Brown's at C.V.R. and was grateful for the experience. She made Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe real people for us through her teachings. It is wonderful to know she lived such a long and happy life! Blessings.

I got to know your parents whilst delivering milk to the house in Huntingdon with my Dad. I also got to know your parents while spending time at the Huntingdon Curling Club. Little did I know I'd have your Mom as my 11th Grade English teacher. It was perhaps the most difficult class I ever took - but it was the best and she was by far the best teacher I ever had. She inspired me to achieve and not just to settle. Thank you for sharing her with me. David Tannahill

Margaret Blank (nee Rennie) posted a condolence
While I am saddened to learn of Mrs. Brown's death, I am also surprised...for I suspect that, as so many of my generation, I'd thought she'd died some years ago. Mrs. Brown was my English teacher at CVR, Ormstown, QC, 1967 through 1969...and her (dare I say "powerful"?) reputation preceded her! One didn't mess about in Mrs. Brown's classes! That said, I believe she always felt that she was being held responsible for getting those of us in Grade 11 "through the Exams", and this curbed her scope when it came to teaching us what she would have wanted. As it was, she opened us to Churchill and Shakespeare among others. And yes, we passed the Exams if we'd been through her class! I also remember my mother (the late Ruth Davison Rennie Daniel) telling me she was disappointed when she found out I'd gone to McGill for Nursing and not for The Law....My step-father, the late Reginald (Reg) Daniel, worked with her husband Cecil at "the line" in the service of Canada Immigration for many years and I know they were great colleagues, if not great friends. Mrs. B. was a force with which to be reckoned, a passionate scholar of English literature. She remains a fond memory of my schooldays. God bless all of her descendants at this time of her passing.

Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of a great woman. "Mrs. Brown" was an amazing teacher and I had the luck of being her student twice. I still laugh at a story she once told about how she "dragged" home a block of cheese only to find it mouldy and her ensuing argument with the grocer when she returned it! She was a phenomenon in my family having taught both my parents (she was a fresh, young "Miss" back then) and then she taught me and all of my siblings! A great lady indeed. Thank you for sharing her with us!

My sincere condolences to the Brown family. Mrs. Brown was my inspiration to do my best in English. I was lucky to have her twice during my séjour at CVR: in grades 8 and 11. Without her prompting, I would never have thought to submit an article for consideration for inclusion in the 1983 yearbook. Not only was she brilliant and quick witted she had an eagle eye for anyone trying to insert an assignment on top of the pile of assignments on the way out of class - when it had been due at the beginning of class: "that will be 5% off for tardiness Catherine" will forever stay with me. A great lesson in accepting responsibility. I think anyone who knew Mrs. Brown would have a myriad of fond memories of their time spent with her. She taught me to love the English language with every sentence that she read - be it from Shakespeare or from our standard grammar book. She taught us to savour and taste the words. Mrs. Brown was one of my favourite teachers at CVR. She made English fun. Such a great lady. Such a great teacher.

My sincere condolences to the Brown family. Marion was one of my favorite teachers in English literature, who was the first to mention Christopher Plummer in class in the early 1960's and who won the lifetime Canadian Actors award just a few days ago. I am very proud to have been a student of "Mrs. Brown". Thank you for encouraging me to always do my best!

Mrs Brown was my English teacher at CVR way back in 77-78. She was the most important person to me in a very difficult year. She was an inspiration to all of and even to this day when I say something incorrectly or use slang I always think and often say"Mrs Brown wouldn't like that!" I hope she never lost her keen wit and wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed. A truly lovely lady!!

She will always be one of my favourite teachers in grade 11. i really enjoyed my year with her. She certainly left her mark on the Chateauguay Valley. I often wondered where she had relocated to when I travel by her former house on route 138 on my way to Ormstown.

Mrs Brown was one of the best teachers that I have been blessed to known. She was the first person to tell me I could and would do well in university but I had to work for it. I have kept some of the papers I wrote for her and reflect on her notes from time to time. All my family were taught by her and it was an honor. Glenn Smith DVM,MRCVS

Mrs. Brown was my English teacher at Huntingdon Academy until I graduated in 1966. Although I undertook a career in Engineering, thanks to her English was always a strong point with me, and it was my writing skills, not mathematics, that sustained my career all these years :) To this day, a dangling participle is something up with which I will not put! It is interesting looking at the condolence comments, where I see my own family and friends leaving their memories of her. She touched generations of students. Rest in peace, Marion Gary Blake

As many people have said, Aunt Marion was a special person. I enjoyed her inquiring mind, wisdom, wit and laughter. Happy Memories of wide ranging conversations after her retirement from teaching at CVRHS. Family history, personal anecdotes and travel abroad were major topics. I appreciated Marion's warm welcome and wonderful cooking on many visits to Huntingdon. She and Uncle Cecil were outstanding hosts; very kind to my late parents, Mary (nee Brown) and Ted St., and other family members. They will be remembered and greatly missed. - Ted Clarke (nephew from Montreal
