Obituary of Richard Arnold Hetherington

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Arnold Hetherington announce his passing, which occurred on July 6,  2024. Richard was born in Swan Creek, NB on May 1, 1947. He was the son of Bertie (Forbes)  and the late Frank Hetherington of Chipman, NB.

Richard was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Richard is preceded by his wife Phyllis, whom passed away just 3 years ago. He will be deeply missed by their children, son Derek (Gina) Hetherington of Smithers, BC, daughter Terry (Chris) Friars of Quispamsis, and son Kyle Hetherington (Tiffany Fawcett) of Baxter's Corner.

Richard especially loved his grandchildren, Spencer Walton of BC,  Cameron Friars,  Joanna Hetherington, and Emily Friars of Quispamsis. He loved talking to the kids and hearing their stories. He loved talking to Spencer all the way in BC. He loved watching all of Cameron's hockey games throughout the years, loved all of Emily’s cheerleading stories and videos and loved hearing all about Joanna’s field hockey.

Richard is survived by his mother Bertie Hetherington of Chipman, NB, his brothers Sandy (Judy) Hetherington and Eric Hetherington, his sisters Donna Hetherington, Bonny (late James) Long, and Dixie (late Gerry)) Long. Richard is also survived by several sisters, brother-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard worked for Irving Oil (Catherwood Garage) for 40 years before his retirement. After retirement Richard and Phyllis kept busy with an occasional trip to British Columbia. Richard loved talking on the phone to his children and grandchildren. Richard also kept busy being a  chauffeur for his grandchildren. This was a role he absolutely loved. He also had several hobbies which included playing crib, watching every sporting event on TV but he especially loved watching his Toronto Maple Leafs and lastly he just loved being in the outdoors either hunting, berry picking or just working in his yard.

Dad, you will be forever loved and missed.
