Obituary of Cecil Robert C. Allen
It is with great sadness that his family announces the passing of Cecil Robert (Bob) Copp Allen, age 60 of Quispamsis, New Brunswick on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Robert, son of Cecil and Mina (McGlashing) Allen was born August 17, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years Bernice (Brown) and three children Tina (Chris) Claybourn of Toronto, ON, Belinda (Hemant) Kumar of Rothesay, NB and Christopher (Wanda) Allen of Quispamsis, NB. He also leaves behind the four lights of his life, grandchildren Izabella and Cohen Allen and Adelyn and Lleyton Kumar. They will forever remember him as their Papa.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters Jane, Betty and Sally and brothers Blaine, George and Jeffrey. He was predeceased by brother Blair and sister Bonnie Lea.
Robert served 23 years with the Royal Canadian Navy. He served aboard many of Her Majesty’s Canadian Ships, including HMCS Athabaskan as part of special duty in the Persian Gulf from September 1990 to March 1991, retiring from the frigate program at the Saint John Shipyard in 1996. He was a proud sailor to the end.
"I am what I am, and that’s all I am." – Popeye, The Sailor Man
He last worked with Prema Canada and enjoyed the many clients he served throughout New Brunswick and PEI. He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed working with tools, a definite jack of all trades. He was always willing to lend a hand and could help with almost any problem.
"The good seaman weathers the storm he cannot avoid, and avoids the storm he cannot weather."
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital, specifically the Emergency Department and Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and support throughout his last days. They would also like to thank the staff at Ridgewood Veterans Wing and the Department of Veterans Affairs for their support during the last few months.
Visitation will be held at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis on Sunday, August 6, 2017, from 6-8 PM. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 11 AM, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
