Obituary of D. Bruce Phillips
It is with great sadness that the family of D. Bruce Phillips announces his sudden passing at his home on January 25, 2018.
Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton on July 6, 1954, Bruce was the son of the late Blair and Jean (Kerr) Phillips, and brother of the late Lindsay (Phillips) Campbell. Bruce was a loving husband to Wendy (MacDonald) for 39 years and a wonderful father to Blair (Nicole), Laura, Kate, Jane and John, and grandfather to Eleanor. He is also survived by his brother Barry (Margaret) and many cherished nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Dalhousie University in 1977, Bruce began his lifetime career in banking. In recent years, he worked as Saint John Regional Manager for TD Commercial Banking.
Bruce dedicated many of his years to community development and sport. His passion for the game of hockey resulted in 3 decades mentoring young people as a coach for minor hockey. Bruce also served as Chairman of Saint John Development Corporation Board of Directors, as Cabinet Member of United Way Saint John, and as a Board Member of Kenval Suites. He was a member of Quispamsis United Church and served on the Board of Stewards and Board of Trustees.
He was a man known for his unconditional love for family, friends, and the Mira River. His candor and sense of humor was "uniquely Bruce" and will be greatly missed.
Bruce is resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on January 30th, from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Quispamsis United Church on Wednesday, January 31st, 2018 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a local food bank of your choice.
