Obituary of Jean Ann Quinlan

It is with heavy hearts the family announce the passing of Jean Ann (Hayes) Quinlan, wife of the late Bernard Quinlan, which occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital - Palliative Care Unit on April 8, 2018. She was born in Saint John on August 28, 1932 and was the youngest daughter of the late Frederick (Pud) and Florence (Surrette) Hayes. Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always treasured the times she spent with those she loved; watching her grandchildren grow into wonderful adults and being the proud great-grandmother to four beautiful great-grandsons. Jean will be sadly missed by her daughters Gail Friars (Glen) and Sandra Blackadar (Eric); her much loved grandchildren Kyle Friars (Melissa), Scott Friars (Zoe Monahan), Sarah (Blackadar) Mason (Steve) and Ryan Blackadar; her great-grandchildren Braydon and Reed Friars, and Logan and Jacob Mason whom she adored and was so proud of; her brother-in-laws Calvin Patterson and Harold Quinlan; and sister-in-law Marjorie (Quinlan) Cosman; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was pre-deceased by her sister Evelyn Patterson. Before retirement, Jean worked as a clerk for Imperial Optical and payroll clerk for Woolco Department Stores. Jean loved her family dearly an enjoyed many family dinners and afternoons playing cards. She had many fond memories of the years she and Bernard spent trailering in St. Martins with their friends Nony and Junior Dunn. Jean was also an avid reader and loved a good book, as well as playing Words with Friends on her IPad. She crocheted beautiful doilies and gave them as gifts to many. She enjoyed new friendships while living at Shannex Jubilee Hall. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd., Quispamsis, NB (849-2119) with visitation on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral liturgy will be held from Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM. A private family interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation c/o Palliative Care Unit (3BN), The John T McMillan Jr. Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.
