Obituary of Ross J. Ellis, FEC
The death of Ross Ellis, occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
His family was the center of his life; he loved his family deeply and was loved by them in return.
He was born in Bathurst NB, September 26, 1938. He received his BSc in Civil Engineering from UNB in 1966, and went on to work on many major construction projects, including the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, the Point Lepreau Generating Station, and Market Square and city center improvements in downtown Saint John. He was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick and was honored with an Engineers Canada Fellowship for his contributions.
Like his father, he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed birdwatching with the Saint John Naturalist Club, sailing on the Kennebecasis River, and gardening in his back yard. Ross was a very active member of St. David’s United Church, playing a role on many committees including serving as president of the Men’s Club for many years. He was also a member of the Corinthian Lodge No. 13, of Hampton NB.
Survived by his beloved wife Mary (Price) Ellis, his children, Joyce Farrell (Mark), Joanne Ellis (Robert Thomson), James Ellis (Glenn Mielke), and Jennifer Ellis, and grandchildren David, Kathryn and Ryan Farrell, and Audrey Thomson. Predeceased by his parents, James and Ada Ellis and his brother Donald; survived by sisters Joyce Katrusiak and Audrey Ellis, and by many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the seventh floor of St. Josephs Hospital for their compassionate care of Ross and their support of Mary.
