I am so sorry you have lost your Chris so young. I have worked with Chris at Irving Oil for 20 years, as I got to know Chris over the years, I came to know him as kind, funny, caring, smart and really just an overall good guy...always a cheerful "good morning" for everyone. Though his heart failed, his heart was in many ways so strong and so big in his willingness to help, listen and care for others. I know he will be missed here at Irving a great deal. My heart goes out to Chris’s family and friends and we all need to find comfort in the good times and great memories. I met and worked with Chris at the Irving Refinery in early 2000. It was Chris’s dry and sarcastic humour that made us friends. we shared countless laughs over the three years I spent in Saint John and managed to get into our fair share of trouble at the local watering hole.
I always wondered how a guy could complete a class 5 rafting trip unharmed but then sprain his foot getting out of the raft. Hahaha. I along with the rest of our group sure gave him heck for that. He obviously took it in stride (on one foot...lol) and laughed it off around the camp fire.
I will definitely miss the enjoyment knowing his humour is no longer being enjoyed on this planet but look forward to seeing Chris on the other side. Take care my friend! You were definitely a kind and caring soul.

I met Chris as part of the UNB Co-op program when we were both sent to Poland. We were sitting together for the landing in Warsaw. "Surreal" was our shared experience. His job took him one way and my job took me another. We met up at the end of the term along with another student for a trip to Germany and France. I remember that I spent my term cautious and mostly terrified. Chris, on the other hand, has spent his term having the time of his life!
Chris' ability to make friends transcended languages. He seemed to know everyone in Poland as he arranged for people to get us to the train. We had to spend the night walking around the train station and 3 thugs were eying us. Chris made friends with an enormous Belarusian on the train platform who agreed to protect us with his billybat hidden in his bag until our train arrived. Who makea a friend of a giant Belarusian carrying a concealed bat at a Polish train station in the middle of the night???? Chris, that is who.
I have so many wonderful memories of that trip. I have so many wonderful memories of Chris. Your grief is profound and I will not pretend I can fathom your pain. I can say that for me, my life was made better having known Chris. My sincere condolences. Maggie Coffin Prowse

To The McMackin Family,
One of the best things that ever happened to me was Chris fleeing Harry Miller Jr. High for Rothesay Jr.
We ended up in the same class and I considered Chris my best friend during those years. He made me cry with laughter more than I can say. We thought we were hilarious, but we were probably just being horrible to our home economics teacher, among other teachers.
My memories of Chris still make me laugh all these years later. I never did find him online, though I honestly did try.
The only time I didn’t look forward to seeing Chris was on the ice, as I don’t recall ever getting past him to get a shot on net.
Two weeks ago on Canada Day weekend, I mentioned to my sister I regretted not seeing more of Chris in high school. Unfortunately, we didn’t have one class together after being stuck in a portable for many hours at RJHS, where we talked about The Who and generally over-reacted to pretty much anything that might lead to another laugh.
I am so saddened for your loss.
I am thankful he is with his Father.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
