Obituary of Iris Elaine Bettle
With sadness, we announce the death of Iris Elaine Bettle (nee Saunders) on December 15th, 2019. Born March 30th, 1924, daughter of the late Bill and Grace (Hawkins) Saunders.
Predeceased by her husband Daryl S. Bettle,sister Doreen Hilderbrand (nee Saunders), brothers; Howard, Myles, Fred (Norm).
She was the mother of seven children; Barbara Upshon, Robert (Judy), Ronald (Maura), Gary (Sheron), Brian, Rose Martin (Mike), Frederick (Louise). There are 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She has one surviving sister Phyllis, and 2 sister-in-laws Mary Saunders and Lynn Bettle. Born and lived in Quispamsis, was a founding member of the Quispamsis United Church.
And a lifetime member of the United Church Women’s (UCW) group. Accepting to all individuals regardless of their backgrounds and her door was always open. Many times she would see someone come in the driveway and the tea pot was put on and a snack tray of cookies and biscuits were hastily put together. A former volunteer with the St. John Ambulance and Meals on Wheels.
After raising her children, she worked at the Rothesay Post Office until she retired at age 65.
Iris loved her garden and spent many hours in the sun, planting, weeding, and cutting flowers to display in her home. She was also an avid reader, was a member of several book clubs and often read a book or two every week. She had her own mini library and was always loaning books to her family and friends.
Every Sunday, after church services, family and friends gathered at her home for brunch. The younger children were always enjoyed being around her.
Much thanks and appreciation is given to Extra Mural, Home Care, Dr. Lisa and many others for their care and making it possible for Mom to stay at home.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Thursday from 3- 7 PM. Funeral Service will take place at Quispamsis United Church on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11AM. Interment to take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Quispamsis United Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
