So many memories. As I reflect on my sister Bernie’s life, I feel blessed. In our childhood, at Pearce Park, to me, it seemed we were opposites, she was very quiet and the ‘good child’ while I was the ‘bold child’. After leaving home, she would often stay with me on her visits from England and Canada. I have fond memories of enjoyable hours and much laughter revisiting our growing up years. I missed her greatly when she left after those visits.
Bern was a great listener, a good problem solver, had a generous heart and good sense of humour. I benefited greatly from her wisdom, as did many people. Gifted at helping others, she helped me at times, giving new insights into some things with which I was struggling, helping to bring light and hope on my journey. I will never forget one time she sent me a beautiful jacket from Canada just at a time when I needed a lift. Whenever I wore it I would feel warmed loved and cared for. Bern led me to the fellowship of GROW, a tremendous turning point in my life, for which I will be eternally grateful.
I experienced Bern’s generosity on my visits to Canada. One time I stayed for three months. She opened her home to me for as long as I wanted with no expectations. She made me feel very at home and free to just do my own thing, providing whatever I needed. She and her husband encouraged my involvement with people at a local church with whom I developed some great friendships and which provided much needed spiritual guidance at the time.
Thank you Bern. Rest In Peace. You will be greatly missed.
Love Junie

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing, but so comforted to know she is reunited with her beloved Owen. Knowing her since we were 5 years old Melissa, there are just so many wonderful memories that come to mind when I think of her. I loved coming to your house and chatting with her. She always welcomed me with open arms and a big hug! She had a great sense of humour. Each time I gave birth to each of my four children, she reminded me of the same story. Melissa, you and I came home from school after learning how babies were made. We swore on that day that we would never be having babies!!! Lol
I loved spending time with her and her family at your wedding and John’s wedding too! Great memories to cherish of childhood and growing up in Bramalea.
Bruce, you were an amazing son-in-law who I know she loved dearly. Your kindness towards her was truly evident in all you did for her both while she was living in Ontario and New Brunswick. You were also so welcoming to all of her family, when they came to Canada to visit from Ireland every year
Love you guys and thinking about you all, as you grieve your loss.
Love,
Suzanne

I was very fortunate to see my auntie Bernie a few times over the last few years. I was also so happy to introduce my son Daniel along with Shas and her son Dan. Last summer we all visited her and she was enthralled by the two tall handsome red headed young men in front of her. She went down memory lane that day chatting about mam and dad. We said our emotional goodbyes and when we walked out I looked over to my son Daniel and his eyes were welling with tears. He looked at me and said she’s just like nana. Another beautiful lady. May you Rest In Peace Bernie and love you Melissa and John xx

Melissa and John: I just got your message about your Mom's Passing so many memories from her years here in Brampton. Please let me know when final arrangements are made and I'll be there at Assumption; that's if I am still standing: the years are there and they are taking their toll!! I'm on my way over to Assumption for a committal service for Ann McGinn (96) and are burying here Ashes right beside those of her Granddaughter, Ann also, who at 15 had a brain tumor and died a few months later: she was at Aquinas then - so very many memories and these are the ones that seem to endure: richly! jt

I remember how when she came to visit us in Brookville in the 80's and 90's it was like a burst of energy coming through the door. How we loved meeting our auntie and cousins from far away Canada. Many years later Bruce took Andrea, the kids and I to see her in her home in Canada and it was still a great craic. How delighted she was to see us, how friendly and warm she was to Andrea and the kids (people she had never met before). On our arrival to her room she was deeply enthralled in some old school Hollywood classic fro the 40's and tired out from our visit she returned to it as we left. Thanks for the memories Bern, will miss you.
It's only from us they are gone when they're gone.

I remember Auntie Bern and Tess back-combing their hair in London in the 60’s and scaring the living daylights out of us children...a vivid memory ‘til this day. And although they looked very scary, they were so good-looking and very stylish. R.I.P Bern. Thinking of you John and Melis. Sending love. Xx

We were deeply saddened by the news of Bernie‘s passing. Although the light of her candle may have gone out, the memories of her kindness will live on forever.
As a boy she welcomed me into her home. She always had a smile and a kind word, even when she knew that John and I were Fresh from, or about to be misbehaving.
Our heartfelt condolences to Melissa John Bruce and the family.
