Obituary of Carl Randolph Gates

The death of Carl Randolph Gates of Quispamsis NB, husband of the late Mary Joan (Fitzgerald) Gates occurred on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Sydney, NS, he was the son of the late Hubert and Ada (Jacques) Gates. Carl was a S/Sgt with the RCMP retiring in 1978. Following his retirement from the RCMP he was employed with NB Tel Security for many years. He enjoyed cars, carpentry and woodworking. Carl’s door was always open to friends and anyone who needed a helping hand. Carl is survived by one son, Marc Gates of Saint John, two daughters, Teresa “Terri” O'Dell (Tim) of Riverview, NB and Kelly Gates of Rothesay, NB, one sister, Connie Donely, Barrie, ON; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Yardley, Calais, Maine, Sister Judith Fitzgerald, Dieppe; three brothers-in-law, Herbert Fitzgerald, Manchester, New Hampshire, Fred Fitzgerald, Missouri, Michael Fitzgerald, Quispamsis; four grandchildren, Natasha Black, Chloe Brown, Gabrielle Brown and Marissa Gates; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Thank you to the Staff of 5C North, Saint John Regional Hospital, Dr. Wildish, Dr. Grant and a special thank you to two amazing people, Ken and Joan Taylor. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, at 10:00 am, with Rev. Donald F. Breen officiating. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or donor’s choice.
