Obituary of Curt Maxwell

Maxwell, Donald Curtis, 81, Gondola Point, NB. It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing, at home, of D. Curtis Maxwell on July 27, 2008, after a long illness. Born July 24, 1927 in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Maude E. and William J. Maxwell. He was predeceased by a sister Lena and brothers Cecil, Ralph, and William. He is survived by his wife Barbara (nee Saunders), son Eric (Rebecca), daughter Holly (Charles), and grandchildren Stephanie, Joel, Grant, Laura, Colin, and Maia. Also surviving are a brother Lawrence (Scarborough, ON.) and numerous nieces and nephews. From 1946 to 1961, Curt was employed by T.H. Estabrooks Company Ltd., Saint John, where he held the position of Credit Manager for Atlantic Canada Operations. In 1961 he joined G.E. Barbour Company Ltd. as corporate credit manager. He was subsequently appointed Secretary Treasurer for Barbour Foods Ltd., McCready Foods Ltd., and G.E. Barbour Inc. and held positions of Vice President and Treasurer of G.E. Barbour Inc., Sussex, NB, when he retired in 1992. Prior to retirement, he was a director and president of the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Creditmen’s Association, and an honourary life member of the Canadian Institute of Credit and Financial Management. He was also a former director and president of the Atlantic Chapter of Financial Executive Institute of Canada. Curt was very active in community affairs. He was a founding member of the Gondola Point Recreation Commission, and a founding director and officer of the Kennebecasis Valley Arena. He was a charter member and former Director of the Rotary Club of Sussex, and was honoured by being named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also an avid volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society. Hobbies included salmon fishing, woodworking, skating, hockey, and baseball. There will be no visitation or funeral service by his request. A private family burial service will be held.
