Obituary of Muriel Sarah Olive
The death of Muriel (Yeo) Olive, RN, of Quispamsis, NB, wife of the late Curtis Olive, occurred on Easter Sunday, April 12th, 2009, at her residence. Born in North St. Eleanors, PEI, on November 19th, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Margaret (Clark) Yeo. Muriel was also educated on PEI and graduated from Prince County Hospital as a nurse, in 1942. From 1942-1944 she worked at Prince County Hospital in Summerside, PEI, later joining the RCAMC in 1944 as a Lieutenant Nursing Sister. Following WWII she worked at the Saint John General and later the Regional Hospital in the Pediatrics Department from January 1960 until her retirement in December of 1982. Muriel was a long time member of the Kennebecasis United Baptist Church, the UCW at the Quispamsis United Church; as well as, volunteered with the Meals-on-Wheels program at the Quispamsis United Church. Muriel is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Dawn Buchan (Daryl) of Rothesay, Crystal Jones (Wendell) of Quispamsis, Elsie Biever (Bernie) of Airdrie, AB and Muriel “Mo” Olive of Quispamsis; two sons, Curtis Olive Jr. (Pam) of Leduc, AB and Roy Olive (Joan) of Hampton; one sister, Wanda Rayner of Summerside, PEI; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Allison Lee; two sisters, Gladys Ellis and Frances Bruce; one brother, Edgar Yeo. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Members of the RCL Br. # 58 will hold a “Tribute to a Veteran” service, Wednesday at 7 PM, at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 16th, 2009, at 2:30 PM, from Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, with proceeds going to the Neonatal Unit through the Randy Jones and Family Foundation.
