Obituary of Gregory Albert Rodine
Rodine, Gregory Albert; His circle of Life...... You did not deserve what you went through, And so He gave you rest, God’s garden must be beautiful, He only takes the very best...... May 1st 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, we lost a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend. He died peacefully at 8:40 a.m., after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife, Patricia Anne (Hickey), his daughter, Jennifer Rodine McFarlane and son-in-law, Bruce McFarlane, were at his side when he drew his last breath of life. Greg was 55 years old and was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He was married to Pat just short of 34 years. His daughter, Jennifer Denise was born April 12th 1977, and was the light of his life. His son, Michael Gregory was born August 25th 1980, which made him happier than anyone could imagine. The marriage of his son, Michael to Andrea McCullough, in September 2006 made him so proud to add another daughter to his circle of life. Then his daughter, Jennifer Rodine McFarlane (sweetpea as he called her) married Bruce McFarlane in August 2009, which he was so honored to walk her down the aisle and add another son to his circle of life. Greg’s zest for life could be seen everyday by the infectious smile on his face. He enjoyed being outdoors in the garden, riding his noisy tractor around and helping any of his neighbours with their outside chores. In the past 3 years he also took up motorcycling again which made him feel like a kid again! He touched many lives, but to him it was the proper everyday thing that one human being should do for another. He did charity work with the K.V. Old Boys and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He didn’t have a lot to give, but what he did have he was willing to share. His proudest moments of his life were many, but his children, their marriages and the birth of his most precious grandbabies, Liam Andrew Gregory and Emily Kate Rodine, which thrilled him beyond words. The love Greg had for his family made him live his life the way he did after surviving an almost fatal heart attack in December 1999. Every day to him was a gift, which he never wasted. Greg was a wonderful, loving husband, a father who adored his children more than life itself and a grandfather in every sense of the word. Those who came in contact with Greg always remembered who he was. His kind mannerisms: his smile, the way his eyes lit up when he spoke to you and his genuine personality for people, just to name a few. Written with all my love.....Patricia He is survived by his mother, Verna (Buffam) Stephenson; his brother, Bob Rodine (Campbellford, Ont); his sisters, Gwen Wilson (Unionville, Ont) and Brenda Rodine (Nelson, B.C.); as well as, several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB (506) 849-2119. Following cremation, the family will receive visitors on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 from 12- 2p.m. at which time Rev. Jennifer Uhryniw will speak on behalf of the family and Greg. Our celebration will continue with an afternoon tea and slide show of pictures of Greg’s life, which will be displayed during that time.
