Obituary of Gordon Raymond Rathburn

The death of Gordon Rathburn of Kingston, NB, husband of Judith (DuVernet) Rathburn, occurred Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Woodstock, NB in 1922, he was the son of the late Hazen and Jeannette (Hatton) Rathburn. Gordon served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and again re-enlisted once the war ended. In his earlier years, Gordon managed the Kent Theatre in Saint John and prior to his retirement he was employed by the Corp of Commissioners. He was a member of the Woodstock Masonic Lodge and was an honourary member of the Woodstock Elks Club. Gordon enjoyed music and in his younger years he could be heard playing in his local band. Besides his wife, Judith, Gordon is also survived by his son, Gordon Rathburn Jr. of Saskatchewan; sister, Noreen Faulkner of Woodstock; nieces, Frances Pugsley (Philip) of Quispamsis and Janet McBride (Earl) of Woodstock; nephew, George Rathburn of Moncton and several great nieces and nephews. As well as, his parents, Gordon was also predeceased by his daughter, Laraine Zenner and brother, Douglas Rathburn. Resting at Kennebecasis Select Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, NB, (506) 849-2119, with visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held from Kennebecasis Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 6th, 2009, at 2:00 PM, with The Venerable Arthur Gregg officiating. Interment will take place in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Kingston. Following the interment, a reception will be held at the Kingston Parish Hall.
