Obituary of Melicent Macaulay
Macaulay, Sybil Melicent (Spinney) Melicent Macaulay passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Saint John, in 1926, and was the daughter of the late Stanley D. and Sybil A. (Richmond) Spinney. After graduating from Saint John High School, Mel took a Business Course at Saint John Vocational School. She then worked for an accounting firm in Saint John, and later for an affiliated firm in London, England, where her husband was a student. Before returning to Canada, she took a memorable tandem bicycle tour of Europe and the British Isles. Mel loved books, music, and was an accomplished pianist. She was also a caring and kind older sister and a much loved aunt . She very much enjoyed her summers at Chance Harbour, where she warmly welcomed friends and family for visits to the shore, where they enjoyed rock-collecting and many bonfires at the beach. She also enjoyed daily swims at the beach which was followed in later years as an avid swimmer at the YMCA. She also enjoyed cross country skiing and many long walks at Rockwood Park. She is survived by sons Andrew, (Josie) of Rothesay, Mark, (Cindy) of Sussex Corner, David of Rothesay, Paul of Saint John, Peter (Lynn) and Philip (Darlene) of Bedford, NS, Christopher (Alicia) of Waverley, NS. Grandsons Alexander, Silvio, Daniel, Colton, Max and Ben and two grand daughters Kendra and Marissa. Also surviving are sisters Shirley Cobham and Patricia (Bill) Ryan Nephews Michael Ryan and Bruce Spinney, nieces Kathleen (Grant) Ryan Elliott, Claire (Andre) Ryan Brodeur and Shawne Spinney. Predeceased by her brother Hugh Spinney. A small, private, family service will be arranged by Kennebecasis Funeral Home. No flowers by request.
