Obituary of Helen Marie Alexander
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen M. (McCurdy) Alexander of Saint John, announce her passing on Monday, March 5th, 2012, which occurred at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John on April 28th, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Heenan) Keating. Helen was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School and Modern Business College. She had a wonderful career with Moosehead Breweries Ltd., retiring in 1985. Helen had a special love for her cat, Alex, her piano, her Buick and her bridge games. She enjoyed her life at Chateau de Champlain and loved spending time with the many special friends she met there. Helen was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women’s League. She was an honourary member of the Kennebecasis Lions Club. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Helen is survived by her four children, Sister Mary Beth McCurdy, SCIC of Saint John, David McCurdy of Saint John West, Linda McGuire (Tony) of Rothesay and Jane Arseneau (Bill) of Quispamsis; five grandchildren, Tony Jr. “Roof” (fiancée, Patricia Buckley), Lesley “Lamby” (companion, Tony Simpson) and Sean “Spank” (fiancée, Julie Corner) McGuire, Andrea and John (companion, Christa Janes) Arseneau; five great-grandchildren, Mallory Arseneau, Brooklyn and Zoe McGuire, Cheyanne Arseneau and Dylan McLellan; as well as four nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Jack Keating. At Helen’s request, no visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 31 Gondola Point Road, Rothesay, on Thursday, March 8th, 2012, at 12:00 Noon. A reception will immediately follow the Mass, at the church hall. A private interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, Saint John. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Sophia Recovery Centre, Rocmaura Foundation, Kennebecasis Lions Club or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
