In this part of the world (Qatar), they say that time stands still; thus, it is with tremendous sorrow that I learned of Martin’s passing only a few days ago.
Martin was one of a kind. He was intelligent, thoughtful, creative, and always entertaining. Although I hadn’t seen Martin since the late 1970s, I always considered him a life-long friend.
Martin, your laughter and innovativeness will be missed. Rest in peace, my friend.

I’m so sorry to hear of Martin’s passing. I worked for him as a summer student / part-time employee in my last year of high school (1987) on Prince William St. I also babysat Francesca and Vanessa when I was younger. He had such enthusiasm for what he did in life and the enterprise he had built - I remember him saying “first you get good, then you get fast”. He encouraged me to pursue what you love in life. I’m so happy he had such a life filled with love.

This has come as a shock to me... Martin was a scholar and a gentleman. He was brilliantly talented and great fun to share time, space and camaraderie with at Professional Photographer events. He was a careful, discerning, passionate jurist at our print competitions. I have lost touch with him since I retired. Words can not adequately express my profound sadness at the news of Martin's passing.
Martin is responsible for the many wonderful memories and the lasting friendships from my time at the studio. He always made me feel I was working with him, not for him. His constant acknowledgement of a job well done and respect for each and everyone of us is a lasting example of a good boss, but more importantly a fine man.
Cynthia please know you are in my thoughts.

So sad to hear of this. Even though my time assisting at his studio was brief, Martin and Tim encouraged me to continue on with film school while I took a breif hiatus at home. Working with them was the jumpstart I needed to start my career and I don't know if I ever truly thanked Martin for that. More than a decade has gone by and I'll never forget how kind, supportive and encouraging he was to me in a time when I truly needed it. He will be greatly missed. I worked retouching Martin’s Negatives and Photographs. We attended Mt A during the same years. Never was there a better boss! He never would ask an employee to do something that he wasn’t prepared to do himself! When he sold the Station House, I continued to help him out until I left the area. My husband Everett and I attended his wedding to Liz. I opened my own retouching business under Jennifer Green Photographic Artist. His Swallowtail Lighthouse photo still has a prominent position in my living room. Martin, you were a very Special Man! You were well loved by those who knew you and, if I hear of a cow having to be mechanically lifted down from Heaven, I will know you made it up those stairs!
Sincerely I will miss knowing the World goes on without you!

Cynthia and family, please accept our sincere condolences. We both wish that we had the opportunity to know Martin longer as he perfectly personified our notion of a gentleman. It was always a pleasure to see you and Martin out for your morning stroll, so sharply dressed and obviously full of love and appreciation for everything you shared. Martin embraced "thankfulness" before it became trendy and possessed a level of warmth and sincerity that was unmatched. We'll miss his kind manner, his sense of humour, his style, and his humanity. As the ash grows long and the smoke drifts on my next cigar, I'll be thinking of Martin and will not forget the brief time we shared.

I am so saddened by the passing of this wonderful man. I first met Martin In 1998 when my late husband Jim invited him to come to our home to take a family photo of us below our home by the Kennebecasis River. It is still framed and treasured.
Then about 20 years ago I joined Royal Lepage Atlantic and needed some promotional photography done. After doing what he could in his studio on Price William St he followed me to Motorsports Plus on Rothesay Ave to take photos of Jim and I on Jim’s new motorcycle which had just arrived. BUT because Martin knew that my love was NOT the motorcycle but HORSES he graciously agreed -no happily agreed - to follow me to Bewick's horse farm on the Kingston Peninsula where my favourite off-time was riding horses! And so all of my Real Estate promotional material is the product of the enormous talent of this phenomenal
Photographer. His enormous talent did not go unrecognized and was well deserved.
Rest In Peace Martin Flewwelling.
