Karl and Trish and families. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss. My first memory of Betty was when she was my Grade 4 teacher in St. Andrews. All the boys in the class had big a crush on her - me included! She made an impression on me then that I am sure will last the rest of my life. We always enjoyed seeing Betty often over the years whenever we went to St. Andrews to visit with Jane and Blaine. Betty was an avid follower of my boating and travel adventure blogs and we had lots of fun exchanging comments with each other. May you find peace and comfort in your happy memories of her. Wally MacKinnon and Catherine Heighway.

Dear Family ~ Sincere condolences on learning of Betty's passing. I knew Betty best when she worked for Avon many years ago. After she changed vocations, I only saw her on occasion while out shopping, but she always recognized me. She certainly had an exciting life and made the best of it. Thoughts & prayers will be with you all in the weeks and months ahead. Sincerely, Gilbert & Jeanette McKinnon, Quispamsis, N.B.

My condolences to your family. I uploaded a photo of Betty with Mom and Dad (pretty sure that it is from Florida) that I always liked, Betty always smiling. Always enjoyed the visits with you guys as kids in St John and Montreal. I fell like I am losing two people because Betty also always reminded me of Rowena whenever I saw her and they both had exactly the same no nonsense attitude. I will miss seeing her in St Andrews.

Sincere condolences to family and friends of Betty who was such an inspiration to all of us at NewfoundlandTours for over 30 years. She always reminded us for her love of our island and especially the people she had met on her journey. Betty was such a kind gentle soul that ensured all her travellers that they would be cared for throughout their visit. She will never be forgotten and surely will be missed by all who met her along the way. I feel so blessed to have known Betty and shared such a genuine friendship. Forever Remembered. Darrin Steele

Sincere condolences to Betty's family and friends.I first met Betty in 1984,when we were transferred from Montreal to Saint John. A mutual friend in Montreal, who had taught school with Betty, connected us. Our first night here in Saint John, Betty hosted us in her home. From the moment I arrived Betty took me under her wing, in her own way, as only Betty could do. We became very close friends over the years. She will be truly missed by myself and many. RIP "my dear friend"!

To Betty’s family and friends - please accept my deepest condolences. Betty and I met in an unlikely spot - a dental chair! Over the years, we became friends and she would email me pictures of her months down south to tease me. We enjoyed many chats about NL and I have many of her photos from some of her favourite places there. She brought a smile to my face every time I saw her. I will miss her and that beautiful smile.
Rest easy, Betty.

I cherish so many beautiful memories of my cousin Betty starting with her visits to Sussex visiting relatives as a youngster. We reconnected in Quebec with our young families living in Kirkland - Beaconsfield. Betty called to ask if I would go door to door with her on behalf of the NO campaign (Quebec Separation from Canada) and we spent many hours on the West Island going door to door without speaking a word of French. The NO campaign won and we actually got to celebrate together.
Both families moved back to New Brunswick but we made sure we kept up with our friendship by visits, telephone and emails. Betty and Ed made us welcome at their condo’s in Florida and we made new memories by going to Boca Grande / Gasparilla Island to visit lighthouses, etc. . Betty once in the car would become our tour guide and we are so thankful for these experiences.
The night Betty and Karl called to tell me that Betty had been diagnosed with ALS was one of the hardest days ever. Shocked and saddened by this terrible news I am looking to see if they have a walk for the cure for ALS here in Fredericton..
Betty..you were loved by so many and our heartfelt sympathies go to Karl, Trish, Reid and Ed....

Our Mom (Ruth Armstrong) wanted to make sure that we sent her condolences to Karl, Trish, Reid and Ed and the entire family. She was so sad to hear of Betty's passing. They shared June as their birthday month. Betty called every year in June and they had great conversations over the phone reminiscing about family and "down East living". She will miss these yearly phone calls but feels blessed to have known Betty and that Betty kept in touch over the years. Barb DaTerra - Sent on behalf of Ruth Armstrong (Ada's daughter - Ada was Harry Walton's sister).

It seems so fitting that Betty left us when her beloved lupins are in full bloom on Merritt Hill!
She was a wonderful neighbour to us in the short time we lived beside her and we were lucky to be the recipients of her rolls, cookies and soup on many occasions! We will miss her greatly.
Our sincere sympathy to Karl and family and Ed.

Our deepest condolences to Karl, Trish and the entire family from Betty's Ontario cousins. We have such wonderful memories of great times together with Betty. She always stayed in touch with us in Ontario and always ended her letter or emails with "I love to hear from you Cousin, please keep in touch". Every time we visited Betty we were so welcomed. Betty would tour us around and we went on great adventures with Ed and us three ladies visiting all the family sites, had great dinners of seafood, Hello Dolly Bars for dessert and an evening of laughing and playing cards. The Fundy Parkway, St. Maarten, Salmon River and Long Beach, Markhamville, Sussex Corners and Saint John were favorite family sites to visit. In 2009, Betty joined us at our Haslam Girl's Cousins Weekend in Ontario. We laughed and heard great stories of Betty's childhood on Frye's Island. Some of the pictures shared are from that weekend. We will miss you Betty. You will remain in our hearts forever. May the wonderful memories provide comfort to all. Barb and Frank DaTerra

It was as a teacher I knew Betty. She often came to my classroom at Forest Hills School and she could manage classes with whom she was not familiar, teach whatever was ask of her and keep the attention of the students. She had high expectations and interesting lessons mixed with a story here and there. When you returned to your classroom everything was in its place, the marking was done and a detailed note was on the teacher's desk describing the day and any follow up that was needed. To her family I send my sincere sympathy. May your memories remain bright and comfort you in your loss. I shall appreciate her memory in the time ahead.
