Obituary of Alan Friars
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alan William Friars, beloved husband of Judy (Brown) Friars, announces his peaceful passing at home per his wishes surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Alan was born on August 17, 1944 he was the son of the late Edgar and Priscilla (Stevens) Friars.
Alan and Judy grew up in Fairvale Station, living only two houses away from each other. They fell in love in their early teens and have been married for 52 years. Together they raised a loving and beautiful family with great pride. During Alan’s working years he was a Sales Representative for over 50 years for Hood Packaging, covering the Atlantic Provinces and Maine. He was well respected by his customers and his team in Quebec. Alan enjoyed his work and loved making new friends. Alan was very active in sports; playing hockey, baseball, bowling, and golfing. He was a member of the Fairvale Softball Team. He also enjoyed many years of coaching hockey and baseball teams. Alan and Judy spent many wonderful years vacationing in Florida with the Ho’s, Myrtle Beach with the Jones’ and Cuba with the Hanson’s. He enjoyed many hockey trips with the Ken Gents Hockey Team, as far away as Copenhagen. Alan also loved his stockcar races. He loved his furry friends, Opey, Fenway and Barney.
Despite decades of health challenges, Alan maintained his positive attitude and sense of humor, We are forever thankful for the terrific care from Dr. Karen Rombaut, Dr. Jeff Douglas, and Francine.
Alan is survived by his wife and best friend, Judy; son, Trevor (Laurina Leyenaar), daughters, Traci (Scott Amirault) and Tricia (Randy Godin), brother Edgar Friars, sister Pam, grandchildren; Meaghan, Josh, Theo, Tianna, Tenneson, Lydia, Adelyn and Quinn. Alan loved each and every one of his grandchildren dearly and they have been left with wonderful memories of their “Giggy”. He will also be remembered by several nieces, nephews and friends.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd, (849-2119); with visitation taking place on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 2:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
