Dear Nancy I am so sorry to learn of Steve's passing in December. I am truly at a loss for words. He was a very good man filled with kindness and a remarkable sense of humour and you both were the perfect match for each other. I remember our crazy UnionLocal 1521 days when good cheer and many funny times were had. Bless you and your family

Dear Nancy and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He touched our hearts with his tribute to Uncle Steve and the crash site caretakers at St. Donat. I also shared his love of the beauty of Grippen Lake when we visited years ago. When Steve stayed with us one summer I felt a real loss when he had to return home. His love of nature and his fellow man shone through in his writings and will stay with us even though he now journeys to a better place.
Love, Mike Lemire and family

Dear Nancy and Geri I just spoke with Steve a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it as usual.Saw some beautiful pictures and talked about your house, garden, neighbourhood and peaceful setting.
Steve and I were best friends from freshman year at Loyola and played Varsity sports .We used to call him the boy wonder.Young, talented, intelligent and sensitive caring and at the same time a tough champion.Pro hockey had an eye on him at fourteen years of age.
We would laugh and enjoy each time we met. After Loyola we worked together at The Boy’s Farm and Training School with Pierre DuCharme and we were inseparable.A year later I moved West to Vancouver where Steve came out and joined us at The Maples where we were well trained and were the first certified Child Care Councillors in British Columbia trail blazing a therapeutic community.
Steve was loved by all staff and kids who were in his care .We shared a house for a few years and enjoyed beautiful BC.
I love Steve as a brother and will miss him forever yet know when he comes around.I feel great sorrow and am sending prayers.
We had a wonderful time your last visit to Vancouver sharing good memories of our home and friends who I will be informing of his passing.
My deepest condolences from my heart and soul.

Nancy, you have no idea how Steve touched the hearts of the Lemire/Van Raay families of Ontario by allowing us to achieve our dream of visiting the resting place of his namesake, our (and his) uncle and great uncle Steve. We will be forever grateful to him. Those few days we all spent together were magical. He was one of a kind. In your sorrow I just want you to know that a little part of him will always be with us.
