I knew Roger through Patrick Archambault's patient advisory committee. Roger struck me as a V8 engine at heart – doing much with intelligence, curiosity and vigour throughout his life. Latterly, he continued to make contributions to society even when only functioning on one physical cylinder. His love of his family shone through. He is missed.

Dear family members, friends and colleagues of Roger,
I offer you my most sincere condolences on behalf of the Canadian COVID-19 Emergency Department Rapid Response Network. Roger was an active patient partner with our group and contributed enormously to making emergency department care better through his contributions to our network. I will always remember the energy and passion Roger had when talking about his experience in the ICU with all our members. He contributed by informing us about how we have to improve the way we communicate with patients when they are in critical care. His memory and legacy will live on through the work he has supported over the last years. His contributions to science will also improve the lives of others.
Patrick Archambault, MD, MSc, FRCPC, Québec Provincial Lead for the Canadian COVID-19 Emergency Department Rapid Response Network

We were deeply saddened to learn of Roger’s passing. I met Roger several years ago at a Horizon planning session in Fredericton. His experience with the healthcare system provided us all with a lens through which we could view our challenges and opportunities in a manner that encompassed all elements of the patient and their environment. It was obvious that Roger cared deeply for his family, his community and the health systems that care for those who find themselves in need of those services.
The NB Heart Centre program had the good fortunate of having Roger as a patient experience advisor. Although Roger had no previous cardiology exposure, his other experiences enabled him to contribute with a depth that was valued by all team members. He spent many hours listening thoughtfully about all aspects of the patient trajectory through the various aspects of our many services. The questions posed were always insightful and the dialogue that ensued helped us strengthen our existing processes. His contributions helped us improve the overall quality of the services that we provide, and those improvements will transcend time. There is no doubt in my mind that many improvements in other aspects of our overall system are a result of Roger’s efforts and contributions
Those that had the privilege of knowing Roger benefitted from his experiences, wisdom and kindness. He will be deeply missed, and our sincere condolences are extended.
Sincerely
Janine Doucet and the NB Heart Centre team

I think Roger DID change the world. He had a spirit that was bigger than life and a truly awe inspiring personality. I met Roger on the CMA Patient Voice and we got to hang out regularly during our meetings. Over time I learned more and more about his special and unique health challenges and I was beyond impressed with how he dealt with it all. He never lost the joy for life, he was as resilient as they come and his involvement in healthcare gave him the drive and will to keep pushing on. I really respected him and he was a beacon for all that is good in our world. Truly, he lived his life to the fullest, gave back the hardest and was an inspiration to witness in motion while his mind went in a ton of different directions about what else could be improved. His lived experience was profound, his challenges many and he did life so well. And all of us know how much he loved his little Granddaughter! To Roger’s family: none of us can even come close to understand how much you will miss him, but please know I will miss him too. He made my life better for being such a wonderful role model for what true strength of mind, character and body is all about.
May you Rest in Peace Roger and thank you for being my friend. .

On behalf of Maggie and I, we offer our sincere and deepest condolences on reading/hearing of Roger's death. He truly was a CHAMPION on so many levels. Never one to shy away from working tirelessly on behalf of those with lived experience , Roger was a genuine community advocate. His leadership in the field of mental health and suicide prevention was truly remarkable, one , who inspired ALL of us to do more and to search for answers to complex issues. I vividly recall his advocacy for bridge fencing on the Reversing Falls Bridge, a feat he accomplished until a change in Ministers of Transportation brought that vision to an abrupt halt. No one ever knew the rationale for this stopage and we know his spirit and fight from heaven will continue to inspire us to follow his vision. Roger's voice will truly be missed . We grieve with you in your loss but know in your hearts he made life far more livable for those voiceless individuals he advocated for. We will miss you Roger but your legacy shall live on in our hearts and minds.

I served with Roger for many years on the CAC in Saint John and the Minister’s Mental Health Services Advisory Committee. He was a dedicated and passionate advocate, a hugely compassionate soul, and a wonderful storyteller and educator. I reconnected with him last summer and shared some walks and talks in the neighbourhood discussing his more recent health struggles and ways we were going to change the world. We were so very very saddened to read of Roger's passing. We have been honoured to call him our dear friend, for many many years. Each time we had the opportunity to chat with him, we left better for it. He was such an inspiration to us, with all the medical issues he was presented with, yet he kept on soldiering on, with such a positive attitude & determination. We were gifted with one more greeting with him, just 2 weeks ago, & if we had of known, it was our last meeting with him, we surely would have lingered longer. We will miss him dearly & are confident that now he is pain free & resting in the arms of our dear Lord.
We extend our deepest sympathy & prayers to his entire family.
