Obituary of Betty McLaughlin
Marie Elizabeth (Betty) McLaughlin died peacefully on January 12, 2023, age 89, at Embassy Hall Nursing Home. Born in Quispamsis, NB, she was the daughter of the late Robert (Bob) and Alma Buckley.
Some of Betty’s fondest memories included years camping with her seven children at Cambridge Narrows campground. Betty will be fondly remembered for her love and dedication to her family. She was an avid sports fan and never wanted to miss an event or leave early (Just like her mother Alma Buckley). She attended most games of her children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren in recent years. Cooking, baking, sewing or cleaning would have mom up until the wee hours of the morning, more often than not. The custom clothing designer, whether it be a dress for a wedding or hand knitting a treasured pair of socks from the oldest to the youngest in her clan. Betty was multi-talented in her own right, be it the piano, singing or dancing. She and Billy warmed many hearts as they made their way around the dance floor at weddings and other family celebrations. In later years, she even provided many hours of musical entertainment at Shannex for the residents. Mom (Grammy Betty) always had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being tricked, as much as being the trickster. Our family home for over 50 years at 14 Lake Rd always welcomed everybody.
Betty is survived by her five children Bob (Lynn), Quispamsis, N.B., Pat (Debbie), Moncton, Joanne DuBois (Leon), Crossfield, Alberta, Gary (Lisa), Quispamsis, and Mike (Wendy) Oakville, Ontario, eighteen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by her husband Bill, 2010, her son, Danny, 1977 and her daughter, Mary Beth, 2006. She is also survived by her siblings Peggy Martin, Hampton, Robert Buckley (Muriel), Quispamsis, June Russell, Saint John, and Hope Jones (Garth) Quispamsis. She is predeceased by her sister Roberta (Lolly) Chamberlain.
She is resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home at 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, with visitation on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Rothesay, N.B. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11:00 am. Private family internment will take place at a later date.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Embassy and Concorde Halls for their kind, compassionate care over the past several years.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
