I met Ken years ago through working with Sobeys. He called one day and I said " You are always so nice and kind on the phone" to which he replied " I have no reason to be otherwise". This has always stuck with me through the years. No matter how busy or stressed he would be with the job he was always so kind. May he rest peacefully.

Mary and family, we were saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. Our sincere and deepest condolences to you all and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. I first met Ken when I joined Sobeys Engineering in 2009 and let me tell you…the honour was all mine. He was such a kind and gentle soul, hard to get him overly excited, and an expert in the refrigeration field. There’s a chance he did not show up on schedule for the 8am meetings as well…from time to time…lol. We worked long hours, enjoyed many social gatherings with our construction team, golfed, casted many fishing lines…and enjoyed his quick wit and laughter……a thousand times over. Thank you for letting us borrow him for the weekend on so many occasions.
Sending you and the family some Pictou County love,
Sincerely,
John Charlton and all his friends at Sobeys Engineering

Mary & Family,
We are so sad to learn of Ken’s passing. Brian always enjoyed working with him and I remember when I worked at Sobeys, my cubicle was near Ken’s desk and he would always take the time to stop by to chat with me as he walked by. He was a kind and thoughtful man. Our sincerest condolences and we are sending love and strength to you all. Love Karen & Brian Hughes

To Mary and the Flavin family. It is with great sadness that I learned today of Ken's passing. I worked for a very prominent refrigeration company in Halifax doing maintenance, service and installs throughout the Maritime's for Sobeys. I first meet Ken at #320 Sobeys Primrose (Dartmouth) during a major renovation job. I always enjoyed working with Ken, his understanding of the problems & issues, and is ability to work with contractors to get the job done correctly. He was a "gentle soul" and always had a quite and calm demeanor while getting the job done and meet the deadlines. I always found Ken "fair to deal with" and listened to your end of the story knowing there were two sides to the coin. Even after Ken retired from Sobeys, I thought of him often. I wish to pass on my deepest sympathy to Mary & the entire family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and those who had the privilege to work with him.
Sincerely,
Mike Dunik, RSE

Dennis and I were so glad we got to be friends with Ken and Mary. We both remember those card games, and Dennis has all those memories of Saturday night hockey, with all the laughs they shared in the dressing room after the games. He will certainly be missed. Our deepest sympathy to you Mary, Jennifer and Jason, and all your families.

Dear Flavin family
I am sadden to hear of Ken's passing. I fist met Ken 1990 at Sobeys New Refrigerated Warehouse in Debert NS (a First one for Sobeys) trying to figure out the design flays in the refrigeration systems and the time he came to help with the warehouse just after hurricane Juan. after that long day he bought me lunch. I admired Ken for is soft way of doing things and glad he was on my side promoting to do things right to allow future growth.
He loved talking about fishing and hunting and growing up in Guysborough.
Ken is still here with us when we look inside our selves remembering who and the way he was with us.
My thoughts and prayers are for you during this time of loss
