Obituary of William James Albert Finlay
It is with deep sadness the family of William “Bill” James Albert Finlay, husband of M. Louise (Saunders) Finlay announces his passing on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice, surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in Saint John on September 25, 1933, to the late William and Elizabeth (Winchester) Finlay.
Bill was partner and vice president of Fundy Ventilation Limited for 46 years. He was an Examiner for the Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program, and was a board member for the Sheet Metal Advisory Board. Bill was the first certified sheet metal worker in the province of New Brunswick. Bill served on the Planning Advisory Committee for the village of Fairvale for several years, and also was a member of the Fairvale Lions Association.
Bill’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends at the family cottage on the Belleisle Bay, where many memories were made.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his sons; Roger of Rothesay, Terry (Sue) of Kingston, Tony (Debbie) of Erbs Cove, and Greg (Donna) of Erbs Cove, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Doug of Saint John, sisters; Betty Sahagian of Airdrie, AB, Ann Pettifer of Nauwigewauk, brother in law Fred Connell of Oromocto, sister-in-law Janet Cunningham of Quispamsis as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Bill was predeceased by his sister Louise Connell, sister-in-law Evelyn Finlay, brother-in-law Stan Boyle, Nat Sahagian, Hugh Cunningham, and nephew Thomas Boyle.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 3C-S of the Saint John Regional Hospital and the staff of Bobby’s Hospice for their care and compassion.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visiting on Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 2-5 PM. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances in memory of Bill can be made to Bobby’s Hospice.
