Obituary of Roland Neville Wheaton
It is with sadness and an appreciation for a life well lived, that the family of Roland “Roly” Wheaton, husband of the late, Joan Wheaton, announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Kingsway Care Centre. Born in Erb’s Cove, New Brunswick, on August 22, 1930, he was the son of the late, Lloyd and Hazel (Earle) Wheaton.
Roly will be remembered for his bright sense of humour. He always had a quick quip or joke to make others smile. He was an active man late into his life, enjoying curling, golf, bowling and sailing on his little sailboat. He loved a good game of cards and played at card parties, especially Crib, which was one of his specialities. He was an avid pool shark and spent many days at the pool tables of Dooly’s in Loch Lomond Mall. Roly was a loving father who doted on his children, taking them on many adventures camping at Grand Lake. He was married to the love of his life Joan in 1949, and together they created a loving and warm family, which Roly was incredibly proud of. Recently he was able to not only celebrate his 93rd birthday, but he was able to thank everyone for coming, a true gentleman through and through.
He is survived by his daughters, Kathy MacKenzie (Michael), Wendy Lennon (Andy), Angela Wheaton and Krista (Philip) Goguen; his son David (Jeanette) Wheaton; grandchildren: Peter and David MacKenzie, Vicki DeVeau, Misty McMillan, Lindsay Scott, Ashley Lennon, Kyle and Ryan Goguen, Kole and Kooper Wheaton; 9 Great-Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren all whom Roly was incredibly proud of. Roly was the last living member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his wife, Joan; his parents; his brothers, Eugene and Colin Wheaton; as well as his son in laws, Michael Lennon and Robert MacKenzie.
Roly’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers of Kingsway Care Centre for your kindness, compassion and most importantly friendship that you have shown Roly over the years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Rd. Quispamsis (506-849-2119), with visiting on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM. A celebration of Roly’s life will be held at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 10:00 AM, with an interment to follow in Erb’s Cove Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish donations may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
