In all my years of interacting with lawyers, Judges, professionals, and people from all walks of life, Wallace S. Turnbull is the first person who comes to my mind when I think of class, strength of character, and professional dignity. He would occasionally follow up directly with me through the years to see how I was doing, and always had a positive encouraging way of letting you know he truly cared. He was my supervisor while I articled at Clark Drummie & Co. and I was so fortunate to have him as a mentor. What a Giant of a man. My condolences go out to his entire family, may he rest in peace. My late wife Jane and I have many memories we share with the Turnbull family, going back to school days and particularly shared family gatherings in Fredericton while Wally was in Law School, Jane was teaching, and I was at UNB. Living near each other on St. John St, we often shared Saturday night supper with beans and bacon, and the odd beer during the hockey game on TV.
Many other happy memories followed, but throughout his life Wally and Charlotte were good and staunch friends.
I will miss Wally, and extend my sincere condolences to Char, Debbie, Tom, Stevie, Don, and Ella as well as the rest of the Turnbull clan.

And we always called him Wally.

Wally was my dear and highly esteemed friend from my earliest childhood. The last time I saw Wally was when I went to visit him with Charlotte in August of this year. Yes, he was frail but he still had a twinkle in his eye and his smile lit up the room. As I sat with him I was reminded of all the wonderful times we spent together and how important his friendship was to me. I never ever made a visit home to Rothesay without a visit to see Wally and Charlotte. Hilary Bonnycastle Bruun.

Wally was such a mentor and example of gentle guidance during my years as Administrator at Turnbull Home. His commitment to the Home and respect for family and community traditions were always evident. He was a great reader and shared some of his favourite insights with me during interminable cheque signing sessions. Plus I loved his skiing stories and fish "tales". I know his loss is felt by many, especially to his beloved Charlotte and children and grandchildren. He will be missed.

Dear Charlotte, Debbie, Donnie & Stevie - I was very sad to hear about cousin Wally’s passing. I can remember getting drives to school with him and my father when they’d ride-share back in the “olden” days when he and Dad still practiced law together at Palmer, O’Connell, Leger, Turnbull & Turnbull…there were always a few early morning laughs to be had. There are also several good photos of Wally with the gang while duck or goose hunting at our camp in Tabusintac - always a big smile on Wally’s face. Please accept my sincerest condolences and know that Wally will be happily remembered. Hugs and love to you all - Caroline

My memories of Cousin Wallace are few because I always lived in another province and in a lonely mid-generation age-wise: not actually part of his era nor in that of his children. However I wish to mention two special memories I do hold of him. I was visiting my mother in Rothesay and on two separate occasions (when I was home during frequent stays there) she asked me to drive her to the Turnbull Home in Saint John to visit her sister-in-law Isabelle (my Aunt Bets). She was unwell at the time and her room was rather dark but while our mini-visits proceeded, suddenly yet quietly the door swung open and there was my cousin Wally all dressed up as if having put in a busy day in the legal world yet his expression reflected a tender and benevolent smile for his mother. From somewhere in that room? light illuminated his face and captured his compassionate concern, how handsome he seemed — truly like a fine gentleman! Mum and I then left to give them time together but on both occasions, I was grateful to know Aunt Bets was cared about so warmly.
I send condolences now to Cousin Charlotte (much vibrant goodwill always came to me from you, many thanks); Debbie, your Dad’s love leaves a memory of good moments he spent with you, Dear. Don and Stevie I do recall happy fun times we enjoyed so it pains me to know you are hurting right now; Tom(my), you consistently relayed happy, positive vibes my way, may you be comforted by God through these difficult days; and Cousin Ella, I am sorry for your loss and send you heartfelt sympathy at this time. I hope peaceful healing comes soon to all of you and your own families.
with Love and Light, Cousin Mary
