Obituary of Jean Jones
Jones, Jean (1922-2023)- with her loving family by her side, Jean was called home to God on Monday, November 13th, 2023. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland to parents Peter and Ester (Randell) Summers on June 19th, 1922, she was one of six children. Jean moved to Saint John, New Brunswick with her husband Wendell Arthur Jones, in 1945 and quickly settled into the rhythm of raising her family and getting involved in the local community.
Jean was an active member of St. Augustine’s Church and the ACW for many years, where she greatly enjoyed the fellowship of her friends and treasured the quilting projects they worked on together. Jean was also an avid knitter who loved to make beautiful wool socks and sweaters for her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Wendell “Butch” (Crystal) and Harold (Debbie) as well as her seven grandchildren, Dale (Kathy), Derek, Tim (Christine), Randy (Melissa), Gordie, Steven (Jessica) and Billy McLeod. In addition, she is the great-grandmother of Dylan (Danielle), Katelyn (Jesse) Sullivan, Kassandra (Riley), Kayla, Madison, Parker, Jenah, Jonathan Boyle, Anabell, Eli and William McLeod. Lastly, she is the great-great-grandmother of Charlie, Jackson, and Austin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as her dear and special friend, Sandy McQuinn.
As a family we have been blessed to span five generations with Jean at the helm, and we will all remember fondly the warmth and wit of our beloved mother and grandmother. Jean will forever be in all our hearts, especially that of grandson Gordie, who was her faithful companion and sidekick for many road trips and special adventures over the years.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her infant son Peter, her husband Wendell and her daughter Eleanor McLeod as well as her siblings in Newfoundland: Mary, William, Florence, Lilliane, and Peter.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heather Duncan and Debbie Jones who cared for Jean with such love and grace during the last months of her life. In addition, we are grateful for the incredible care and support received from Morgan, Karen, Brianna, the extramural team as well as Dr. Sarah Cains.
