Obituary of Nicholas Charles Walsh

It is with profound sorrow that the family of Nicholas Charles Walsh announce his passing, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Known affectionately as “Boomer”, Nick was born in Saint John to William and Judy (Millican) Walsh on June 5, 1979. Although born within city limits, Nick was quick to clarify that he was from Rothesay and was the only one of his siblings to leave the hospital and go directly to the Walsh family home in Kennebecasis Park.

Nick graduated from KVHS in 1997 with a close group of friends, some of whom he met in elementary school, that remained close throughout his entire life. After graduation Nick served in the Royal Canadian Navy, proudly following in his maternal grandfather’s footsteps before beginning a nearly 20-year career with the Irving Oil Refinery. The people in his life were his greatest treasure, especially his family. Along with Bill and Judy, Nick is survived by the joy of his life, daughter, Ella, devoted wife, Liz Martin, and cherished siblings Billy Walsh and Melissa and brother-in-law Moe Savoie of Rothesay. He is also survived by beloved nieces and nephew, Ayana, Charlie and Nela Savoie and faithful four-legged friend, Buddy.

Everybody loved Boomer. From a vast extended family, an endless sea of friends and family friends who were as close to Nick as relatives, to his friends and colleagues in South Processing, Nick will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the Irving Oil Refinery and the Irving Family for their support over the past year. They would also like to thank Drs. Mark Tutschka, Andrew Brunner, Russell Goodman, Julie Zhu, Robert Berry and Nurse Practicioner Sarah DeCoutere, along with nurses Ruth, Scott, Cherrise, Alex and Melissa from the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit for their expertise and assistance during these trying times.

In keeping with Nick’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A visitation will be held at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 1-4 PM. Friends and family will then be welcomed at Nick’s family home (65 Elizabeth Parkway, Rothesay) beginning at 6PM following the visitation.

Donations in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
