Funeral Service
Obituary of David Edward Long
It is with profound sadness that the family of David Edward Long, husband of Sharon Ann (Graves), announce his passing at home on Sunday, July 14, 2024. David fought a courageous year-long battle with cancer supported by his loving family.
In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children: J. David Long (Beverly) of Rothesay, Vicky-Lynn Armstrong (Blake) of Saint John West, and Raeanne Dunn (Nicholas) of Rothesay: grandchildren: Jamie Long (Christine), Chad Long (Danielle), Samantha Dunn, John Watts, Kirsten Dunn and Parker Dunn; and seven great grandchildren. Special members of our family are Marilyn (Tootie), Kerri, Krista and Kayla Bennett.
He was born on September 1, 1942, in Saint John, the only son of the late Frederick and Olive (Kirkpatrick) Long. With the onset of computer technology in the banking industry, David secured a position with the State Street Bank and Trust Company in Boston, Massachusetts. This was a platform for him to return home where he was employed with IBM Canada. His achievements at IBM were recognized which ultimately led to his 22 year career as the Manager of the Data Processing Department at Saint John Regional Hospital.
David was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay, serving on the vestry and chairing the building committee. David enjoyed travelling and spending many winters in Florida, always welcoming family to join them. In addition, it was always an adventure skiing at Poley Mountain, Sugarloaf, USA, and the many senior spring breaks trips to Quebec with his skiing buddies. David enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Hampton Golf Club and the
Riverside Golf and Country Club. He loved playing card games, especially poker with the guys and bridge with good friends.
He was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. David enjoyed spending time with his family, sharing in many of their interests and activities. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
From the bottom of our hearts, David and I wish to thank our family for their devotion and unwavering support during this difficult time.
In keeping with David’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506- 849-2119). An open Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 11:30AM. Interment to take place at St. Thomas’ Cemetery, Black River, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David can be made to St. Paul’s
Anglican Church, Rothesay, or to the St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery Fund.
