Obituary of Betty Constance Day
It is with broken hearts and an appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Betty Day (Vroom), wife of the late Donnie Day, announces her peaceful passing which occurred on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, just shy of her 94th birthday. Betty was born on October 28, 1930, in Saint John, NB and was the daughter of the late Greta (Mott) and Karl Vroom.
She will be remembered for her warmth and love but mostly for her vibrant sense of humour. Betty had the ability to make anyone laugh and loved the odd naughty joke just to get a reaction. You never knew what she was going to tell you next. She was devoted for almost 75 years to her husband Donnie and we find comfort knowing she is with him again. As a mother, you could not find a better one. She raised her children in the South End of Saint John and was the type of lady who would make sure all the neighbourhood kids had treats. When it came time to be a grandmother, she took such pride in that role. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have lasting memories of their Nan who would make them Rice Krispy treats and social tea squares, have a separate grocery order for each of them and many special sleepovers and movie nights. Betty loved the colour red and red roses, so please if you see a red rose or wear red, think of her. She is going to be sorely missed by all of her family who loved her so dearly.
Betty is survived by her children: Kip (Angela) Day, Donna McNamee and Cindy (Dave) Thiemann; her grandchildren: Shawna (Billy Doucette) McNamee, Tracy (Murray) Williams, Tricia (Marco) Therrien, Natasha (Paul) Thibodeau, Shane (Kayla) Day, Michael (Kyle) Day and Salena (Amie) McNulty-Thiemann; her beloved great-grandchildren: Jacob Meagher, Shyann Doucette and Adrian Thiemann; and special nephew, Herman Wills. Betty was predeceased by her love, Donnie; son-in-law, Joesph McNamee; as well as her parents and siblings. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Her family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Shannex Tucker Hall for the love and friendship you have shown her over these past few years. She spoke so fondly of all of you and she truly meant it when she said you were her grandchildren. The volunteers and friends of Betty who brought your pets in to visit her, you will never know how deeply kind that was and how impactful it was on her. She loved you and your animals so much. You all enriched her life in ways you will never know. Dr. Michael Simon, thank you for the years of care and friendship you have given to her. Kristina and Abby from Brenan’s Funeral Home, thank you for the tenderness you showed us when you came to Shannex.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506-849-2119). In keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation or formal funeral service. A private family graveside service will be held in Fernhill Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her “Hun” Donnie.
For those who wish, donations to the SPCA would be appreciated by the family as Betty dearly loved animals.
