Obituary of James Richard McCarthy
The peaceful passing of James Richard McCarthy, husband of Patricia (Gagné) occurred on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Palliative Care.
Born on March 25, 1949 in Grand Falls, NB, Jim was a son of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Downing).
Besides his wife of 43 years, Jim is survived by his children; Sylvain Roy (Lee Ann) of Morinville, AB, Karl McCarthy (Rena) of Quispamsis, and Jessica MacNeill (James) of Saint John, brothers; Keith (Mary), Calvin (Barb), and Chris (Terri), sisters; Emily Quinn, Patricia Paul (Wayne), and Judy Pierce (Charlie), grandchildren; Julianne, Nicholas, Alex, Sabrina, Jacob, Kolby, Lea, Connor, Ava, and Abigail, great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his brothers; Joyner (Helena), Bernard (Joyce), Mayvard (Ginette), Archie (Joan), and Larry, sister Pauline Bear (Jim), and brother-in-law Bernie Quinn.
Jim was a carpenter by trade, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Locals 1325, 1386 and 2262. He was an active member of various ministries of St. Mark's Catholic Church, most recently, The Men of St. Mark's. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 6766.
Jim had a competitive spirit, and enjoyed passing his time playing darts, cribbage, billiards, and golf. He had a real passion for baking, especially Grammy's homemade bread. An avid hockey fan as well, he truly bled blue and white, "Go Leafs Go!"
Above all else, Jim was a hard working family man, he loved God, with a loving devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Jim and family were truly grateful for the care and support provided by Dr. Anthony Reiman and Team, Oncology and Palliative Care, Saint John Regional Hospital.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Friday, September 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mark's Catholic Church, on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00AM. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Saint John Regional Hospital - Palliative Care Unit.
