Obituary of George Charles Walsh
George Walsh of Quispamsis, cherished husband of Shirley (Teed) Walsh passed away peacefully on January 9, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John. Born on September 25, 1935 in Weymouth, NS, he was the son of the late Charles and Marion (Smith) Walsh.
Besides his wife Shirley, George is also survived by daughters, Catherine Walsh Landry (Bernie) of Rothesay and Carla Bowes (Paul) of Quispamsis; beloved granddaughters, Alicia Bowes, Amanda Bowes and Céline Landry; sisters, Marion Walsh of Debert, NS and Pauline Donovan (Gerry) of Dartmouth, NS; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Charles Walsh; sister, Anna Melanson and brothers, Jimmy Walsh and Richard Walsh.
George served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1954 - 1976. Upon his honourable release from the Navy, he was ranked Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, MMM, CD. George then went on to work as a supervisor for Irving Oil Canaport Offshore Division until his retirement. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and vacationing with his family at their summer home on the lake. Most of all George loved his family, especially his special granddaughters who will always remember their grampy as loving, caring and supportive. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
As per George’s request, no visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 171 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 10:00 AM. A reception will be held immediately following the Mass, in the church hall. Arrangements are entrusted to Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis, (506) 849-2119.
