Obituary of Perry William Craft
Perry William Craft passed away peacefully at Bobby's Hope House on May 10, 2015 after a long period of Alzheimer's. Born in 1928, he took an interest in the fiddle as a teenager with Don Messer being his inspiration. In the 1950's he played with the Maritime Farmers on the radio and TV, and he played many musical venues throughout his life, the final one being the KV Country Band. He was inducted into the New Brunswick Country Hall of Fame in 1984 and received multiple music awards throughout his life.
After 28 years of working at the Irving Oil Refinery, he retired in 1987. Perry and his wife Marilyn wintered for 16 years in Florida where he was invited to join the St. Andrews Pipe Band of Tampa Bay as a solo fiddler. He also played at the Florida State Fair and with two local bands in his residential park.
He loved his family and the many little pet dogs he had over the years. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn (McIntyre) Craft, son; Dr. James Craft, daughter; Barbara Fox (Michael), five grandchildren; Tony Lowney of Ottawa, Jeff Lowney of Saint John, Mya Lowney of Calgary, Emily and Lauren Craft;great grandson; Seth Toth, also by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; Perry and Jenny Elizabeth (Straight) Craft; brothers; Bob and George; sister, Elizabeth Grant.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119) with visiting on Monday, May 11, 2015 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Kennebecasis United Baptist Church, 383 Hampton Rd., Quispamsis on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 2:00pm. Interment to take place at Maces Bay Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Bobby's Hope House or to the Alzheimer's Society.
