Obituary of Karen Frances Kalverboer

With heavy hearts, the family of Karen Kalverboer (Kirkwood) announces her passing on July 28th, 2020, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Karen was born on May 10th, 1948, in Saint John, the daughter of the late James H. Kirkwood and Thelma A. Kirkwood (Taylor).

Karen is survived by her husband Pieter Kalverboer, married for forty four years. She is survived also by her three loving daughters, Matina Kalverboer Tayes (Colin), Kenda Stathopoulos (George), Petra Snook (Monty), and six beautiful grandchildren Walker and Carson Tayes, Roman and Stella Stathopoulos, and Mya and Leo Snook. In addition to her husband and daughters, Karen is survived faithfully and caringly by her brother and sister-in-law Kenneth Kirkwood (Brenda) of Dartmouth, NS.

Karen grew up in Saint John, attended Saint John High and U.N.B., and worked at N.B. Tel until she decided on being a stay at home Mom. Anglican by faith, she was involved in many church activities. Her church family and friends became very dear and precious in her daily life. This was when she developed a passion for quilting and enjoyed many hours with friends, especially the Calico Quilters and Linda Reid a faithful quilting buddy.

Karen and her lifelong and best friend Dianne Perry would often read each other’s minds, true sisters in life. Anne McLaughlin and others, too long to list, were great friends indeed. Karen loved playing Rummoli on Monday evenings for some 32 years, and volunteered at the Saint John Regional Hospital for a number of years.

Her family would like to thank all who attended and cared for Karen in the past year.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis.
