Obituary of Gerald William Stack
It is with broken hearts that the family of Gerald W. Stack announces his passing which occurred unexpectedly at the CHUM Hospital in Montreal, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. He was the loving husband of Allyson (Callaghan) and father of Joshua and Lauren. Gerald was born on March 11, 1965, in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Gerald and Jean (Hatfield) Stack.
Gerald will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his great sense of humor and remarkable ability to tell a story. He had a unique ability to connect with young and old alike. Gerald and Allyson have been together for over 36 years. They built a life, which included a beautiful family and wonderful lifelong friends. While maintaining their own separate interests, their mutual love of travel, sporting events, music and friends made for wonderful trips. They had the luxury of celebrating 31 Anniversaries each in a special way. Trips with friends will never be the same, but Gerald will always be a huge part of the stories.
Gerald loved his children and making memories with them, they will always remember the years of camping, skiing and trips to Florida and PEI. He was heavily involved with his children's sports, and spent many hours at basketball courts, hockey and lacrosse rinks and soccer and football fields. If he wasn’t coaching, he was there as his children’s biggest fan.
He worked thirty-four years for Moosehead Breweries where he made lifelong friends. During this time, he found his passion for unionism. He was a fierce union activist and leader, serving as president of Local 362 for many years. He fought his whole career for the rights of others and never put himself first in that fight. At the end, true to his nature he gave the gift of life. Four people and their loved ones are now celebrating his generous gift, and a new start.
In his retirement years he was able to devote more time to his favorite pastime, golf. He was a member at Hampton Golf Course and cherished the new friendships he made there. He divided the rest of his leisure time between his ATV, kayaking, fishing, and walking his beloved dogs Annabelle and Duke. The Steelers and the Habs will certainly miss their biggest fan.
He is going to be deeply missed by his wife Allyson, children Joshua and Lauren; sister Mary Elena Stack; his sister-in-law Katherine and her husband Brad Melanson; his niece Rebecca Melanson (Doug); nephew Ryan Melanson (Emily) and two great nephews Elliott and Riley; his uncle Joseph Stack and several special friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, his parents in law David and Kathleen Callaghan and his uncle Bill Hatfield.
Honorary pallbearers are Josh Stack, Brad Melanson, Ryan Melanson, Greg Brown, Jeff Ewart, Andrew Pougnet, Matt Burns, Paul Galloway and Dave Higdon.
