Obituary of Ann Frances Ernst
Ann Frances Ernst, wife of the late Cyril Ernst, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023 in Quispamsis, NB, surrounded by family. She passed as she lived - full of love, with a song in her heart.
Born on November 22, 1934, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ann was a daughter of the late Captain Thomas and Kathleen (Masters) Pittman. A Newfoundlander at heart, Ann had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed a good joke. Always ready with a song for any occasion, she enjoyed listening to Newfie ‘30’ and singing a good old fashioned tear-jerker. She was known for her keen sense of fashion and she loved to dance. A city girl, she rose to the challenge of being a farmer's wife and held that post for 46 years.
The middle child in a family of 11, it was in her nature to care for those around her, which was expressed later in life by volunteering in palliative care. She loved and fussed over friends and strangers alike who were, she declared, simply “friends she hadn’t met yet”. She enjoyed finding beauty in everything around her - she loved flowers, refinishing old furniture, and tole painting.
Ann was involved in her community and served many years in the RCL Ladies Auxiliary, and with the Lunenburg Craft and Folk Harbour festivals and later at the FMH gift shop. After living in Lunenburg, NS, for over fifty years, she wrote the last few chapters of her story in Quispamsis, NB. Later in life, she discovered that she was stronger than she ever knew and smarter than she ever gave herself credit for. Ann was our family historian, full of stories of years past.
Ann is survived by her son Gregg Ernst (Jennie) of First Peninsula, NS, daughter Trudi Buote (Daryl) of Quispamsis, sisters; Eileen Smith (John) of Dartmouth, NS, Rita Palhares of Toronto, ON, brother, Mike Pittman of Garden Lots, NS, grandchildren; Joshua, Marja, John, Peter, Elijah, Eva, Ruth, Esther, Nathan, and Samuel Ernst; and Gillian and Noah Buote, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Waiting to greet Ann at the gates of heaven will be her husband, Cyril, grandson Thomas Ernst, brothers; Ken, Jack, Tom, and of course her dear brother Jim, sisters; Mary, Pauline, and Kay, and special friend Allan Blue.
