I just found out tonight of Wayne’s passing. My husband and I are shocked. Being from Moncton myself and moving to Quispamsis, my husband and I would go in to see Wayne at Brunswick Square then at his location in Rothesay and we would reminisce about Moncton and how it changed from when we lived there. Wayne knew many of the same friends I knew as well as some of my cousins. Wayne was such a warm and kind person. To the Smith Family, please accept our deepest condolences for this huge loss. Grace and Family,
I am so sorry to learn of Wayne's passing tonight, please accept my deepest sympathy.
I met Wayne in 1986 when I moved to Moncton and took his position with Birks and you were all off to Newfoundland on a great adventure. Over the years Wayne and I worked as colleagues at Birks in different provinces. He was always there to talk or for advise when I needed it. Then you came back to NB and he became my "boss" although he was more like a business partner. He provided me with guidance and advice that insured our success in the province and the company.
Then it all changed and Wayne opened his own store in Brunswick Square and he became the competition. Luckily we remained friends at a distance and spoke when with him when in Saint John, even had lunch a few times!!
I must say that I have never met a more determined and driven person. He could sell anything and when he set his mind on something always had the drive and determination to reach his goal and make the project a success.
His family was always on the agenda when we met and it was for them he put in the hours and efforts.
Wayne was quite a character and I will always remember him for that, all he taught me and his support over the years.
God Bless,"
Lance (Ritchie), Moncton

My sincere sympathy to Wayne’s family. My parents had been customers for many years especially at Christmas time. When my husband passed away after a short battle with ALS I wanted to do something with my wedding set and his wedding band. Wayne created the most beautiful ring that symbolized our love. My parents and I will miss his presence.

Doug and I first met Wayne almost four decades ago, while he was working with Birks Jewellers, then to W Smith Jewellers and onto the valley. Wayne took great pride in his work, creating 1st class pieces, unique to each individual. He loved collecting and showing rare gems he'd found, presenting them with a huge smile on his face, like a kid on Christmas morning. We became fast friends over the years, and he will be sorely missed. Grace, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time. Kathy & Doug

Susan and I so very sorry to hear this surprising and sad news. We have been customers of this always friendly, fair and helpful first class jeweler since the mid 80;s when I met Wayne at the Birks store he managed at Highfield Square in Moncton. He designed a ring guard for my wife's engagement ring at that time, my gift to celebrate the birth of our third son. Wayne thought my intention extra special and insisted on a more elaborate design which included 4 small diamonds. I hadn't counted on the additional expense, but he talked me into it. Susan was beyond delighted. We and our 3 sons have been dedicated and regular customers ever since - most recently last Fall where Susan and I received the warmest .of welcomes to the new store. We certainly will miss 'Mr. Smith' .and our reminiscing of times gone by. Since sympathy we send to Wayne's family with the hope their happy memories of this good man will sustain them..
