Obituary of John Edward Donovan
It is with heartfelt sorrow, the family of John Edward “Jack” Donovan, husband of Carole (Burgoyne) (Ratchford) Donovan, announce his passing on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Born on December 5, 1939, in Saint John, he was a son of the late Clement and Olive (Prince) Donovan. Jack was employed in Sales in the Food and Commercial Industry for many years until his retirement. He and Carole enjoyed many trips together to Florida, where they made many wonderful memories. Jack had a passion for cars, both buying and selling them. He and Carole were members of St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by his stepchildren; Tony Ratchford (Suzanne), Keith Ratchford (Heather MacInnes) and Christina Thorne (Brian), brother Douglas Donovan (Betty), sister Janet Devlin (Paul), sister-in-law Barbara Burgoyne, grandchildren; Sarah Ratchford (Jeffrey Bell), Colin Ratchford, Meghan Thorne, Craig Thorne, and Nicholas Thorne, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jack was predeceased by his sisters; Mary Cooke (Robert), Jeanne Tweedie, and Barbara Pickard (Charles), nephews; Michael Tweedie, Mark Donovan, and Brian Cooke.
Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119) with visitation on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 10AM. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in memory of Jack can be made to the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’schoice.
